Downtown March Raises Awareness Of Domestic Violence Danger

2:45pm | Demonstrators came together in downtown Long Beach last Friday night to raise awareness about the dangers of domestic violence and to show support and love for victims. Photographer Daniel DeBoom was there to capture images of the march, which was hosted by the Women's Shelter of Long Beach as well as the Long Beach Police Department's Women's Advisory Group, Food Finders, Project Safe and End Abuse Long Beach.

"It really does bring awareness to domestic violence," said Giovanna Martinez, youth services coordinator for the Women's Shelter, on Friday before the event took place.

"It definitely helps people come togetherr because it's for a cause that everyone can agree should not be happening."

If you or anyone you know is going through issues with domestic violence, the Women's Shelter of Long Beach has a 24-hour hotline that can be reached at 562.HER.HOME or 562.437.4663.

Governor Schwarzenegger has to be commended for making a very wise, sound decision in restoring funding for battered women shelters. Without a shelter for a battered woman to go to, she could be killed or severely beaten. This is a very important point that Governor Schwarzenegger recognized. Most men are bigger than women. This is a reverse decision for Governor Schwarzenegger and this decision shows that the Governor has a flexible mind to do what is right. Well done! Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger! You have saved the lives of many battered women. If any husbands want to murder their wives, beware, the "Terminator will be Back."
