PHOTOS: Snowy Celebration For Long Beach Elementary Students by Daniel DeBoom | Steal My Soul | 12.01.10 |
+ ![]() 9:50am | With today marking the first day of December and all, we're officially into the Winter season (nevermind the calendar). And what's Winter without a little snow? The students at Prisk Elementary don't have to wonder anymore, as the school brought in a snowy playground for some of the top academic performers yesterday. So the kids bundled up and took to the slopes! What started out as innocent sled rides quickly turned into snowball madness, as you'll see in the photos below, but it was all in good fun. Besides, it turns out that sleds make pretty good shields. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

EAB What a great way to motivate students to do well in school!! Prisk Mom Story is wrong. It was for kids who sold the most fundraiser deserts. My poor son (who IS the top in his class) didn't get to play with snow because he didn't sell any. Eastsider Prisk Mom - take your son to the mountains PriskMom2 Our Foundation has been raising money to pay for our Science Teacher/Specialist for several years due to budget cuts. Our Snow Day was an award for students that earned level 4 of the first 2010 Fund Raiser. Our Foundation is raising money to keep our hands on science program alive and well. We are hoping to fund a science specialist next year as we had to cut the position this year. Unfortunately, as Prisk Mom stated also, it had nothing to do with top acedemics as the story stated. LB Mom I think this snow day is a great incentive for their science program and it looks like the children who participated are really enjoying their award! Peaches That cute little blond guy in several pictures, is my Grandson. Isn't he darling! PriskMom3 Prisk Mom- Although my daughter did get to do the snow day (cuz I wrote the Foundation a check for $100), I think it is cruel to dismiss only some of the kids to go play in the snow while the others stay in class and can see them having fun. There must be a better way to do this, but the two or three moms who run the Foundation do a great job with practically NO help so I won't criticize them too much.
