War Correspondent Gideon Yago Appears At Lightbulb Mouth Tonight by Ryan ZumMallen | Archive | 08.18.10 |
+ Pictured right, Brown hosting the show in April.2:30pm | The final scheduled performance of Lightbulb Mouth Radio Hour this season is scheduled to take place tonight, around 8:00pm at The Basement in the East Village and will feature outstanding guests headlined by seasoned war correspondent Gideon Yago. Hosted by local poet Derrick Brown, the show has quickly gaining a local following over the last few months and is developing into a great place to break into the poetry scene with each show beginning with an open mic. It's also a great place to hear established local talent as musicians, poets, authors, comedians and more perform their work and then are interviewed by Brown. Tonight's guests will be treated to the works of author Rick Lupert and C.R. Avery, who is described as a one-man-band centered around his harmonica and beat-boxing. But the highlight is Yago, who built a reputation on MTV News and turned that into a career with CNN, SPIN and NPR. His segment, helpfully titled "How To Be A War Correspondent" will focus on his experiences and no doubt will be peppered with humor, because Brown's interviews always are. Check out this article to see video of a recent show with recent guests that included comedian David Cross. For a $7.00 cover charge - $5.00 if you sport cocktail attire - the doors typically open at 8:00pm and open mic begins at 8:15pm. The show begins shortly after.
