A truck driver remains in a Long Beach hospital under moderate distress today after his big rig overturned on the 405 and 710 freeway exchange and firefighters had to extract him from the vehicle.

The truck, carrying scrap metal, was transitioning from the 405 North to the 710 South when it overturned and landed on its side, trapping the driver. One o the truck's gas tanks ruptured and spilled diesel onto the road. Firefighters were dispatched around 10:30am

and spent ten minutes cutting the truck to free the driver. He was transported to a hospital.

No other vehicles were involved and no one else was injured. The exchange has been reopened but was closed for several hours. The cause of the accident is being investigated.
