Interval House to Receive President's Award from The Center Long Beach by Long Beach Post | Staff Reports | 01.26.12 |
+ 2:18pm | Interval House Crisis Shelters and Centers for Victims of Domestic Violence will receive The Center Long Beach's "President's Award" during the annual State of The Center on Saturday, January 28. Interval House will be honored alongside Los Angeles County Supervisor Don Knabe.
Founded in 1979, Interval House is the largest comprehensive domestic violence program serving the City of Long Beach and Orange County. Interval House's history is characterized by a tireless commitment to pioneering innovative programs and services on behalf of culturally underserved victims in crisis, including the LGBTQ community. Since its inception, Interval House has also offered comprehensive support to LGBTQ victims, including emergency and transitional shelter, specialized legal and health programs, and extensive community education. More recently, Interval House has strengthened its commitment to increasing domestic violence education, awareness and outreach to the LGBTQ community by expanding its long-standing partnership with The Center Long Beach—the central and vital core for the LGBTQ community. Interval House vigorously pursued and secured funding that allowed the two agencies to work together toward the mutual goal of increasing access to culturally competent domestic violence services for ethnically diverse and underserved LGBTQ individuals. "The Center Long Beach has served as the hub of critical programs and services for the LGBTQ community for the past 35 years,” said Interval House Executive Director Carol Williams. "It has been our great honor to join hands with this outstanding organization to expand specialized outreach to the LGBTQ community so that, together, we could reach even more intimate partner violence victims in crisis." "Interval House is especially proud and grateful to receive this honor from The Center due to our great admiration for their outstanding programs, staff, and Board of Directors, " Williams added. The State of The Center is scheduled for Saturday, January 28, with brunch at 9:30 am and the program at 11:00 am, at The Center, 2017 E. Fourth St, Long Beach, CA 90814. Please RSVP as soon as possible to (562) 434-4455. For more information about Interval House, please call (562) 594-9492.
