5k Supports Local Education by Miles Nevin | Report Card | 09.07.09 |
+ Children Today and Long Beach City College are partnering on Saturday, October 10 for a day of family fun and community service in support of education. Located at LBCC’s Pacific Coast Campus will be Children Today’s 5k Run/Walk at 9:00am, followed by the annual LBCC Reggae Festival at noon. Both events support education in the city of Long Beach; Children Today offers no-cost child care and preschool to children experiencing homelessness, and LBCC provides college instruction to diverse populations in the region. The Children Today 5k is sponsored by Free Conference Call, a downtown Long Beach company committed to Children Today’s mission of nurturing and educating children facing homelessness in Long Beach. In addition to raising much-needed funds for Children Today’s programs, 5k participants will receive free entry to the LBCC Reggae Festival, various gifts from the 5k vendors, and a 5k Goodie Bag including a tee shirt. The first, second, and third place 5k winners will receive cash prizes. Walking or running in the 5k costs $15, and can be achieved by registering online. K-12 students can participate for $10. Click here to easily complete the registration process. Children Today encourages all ages to participate in the 5k. The course is kid friendly, pet friendly, and ADA compliant. Josh Lowenthal Thanks Miles! If LBPost readers do not want to run perhaps they will consider sponsoring those that are. All proceeds benefit Children Today and are tax deductible! People may give easily online: www.active.com/donate/childrentoday5k In addition to runners, we need more fundraisers! Even if you can't do the race you can still fundraise for others who are. Anyone can sign up to be a fundraiser from the site above. It's phenomenal when everyone comes together for a good time, benefitting those with less. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone out there on October 10th.
