Downey Mayor Speaks To PT Regarding Tesla by Ryan ZumMallen | Archive | 08.28.09 |

The Tesla Model S, a four-door electric sedan that was
recently introduced and covered in this
article by LBPOST.com columnist Nancy Pfeffer is in the process
of narrowing its choice for a production plant to Long Beach or Downey. This morning’s Press-Telegram article highlighted the competition between Downey Mayor Mario Guerra and Long Beach Mayor Bob Foster to attract Telsa to their respective cities. Well, what a difference a work day makes - Mayor Guerra sent this open letter to The Canalis Report and it reads like he means business. John Greet Downey Mayor Guerra's letter "reads like he means business" alright. Not only is he sending a clear and very public message to Tesla's Founder and CEO, Mr. Elon Musk but, through that public message he's also mobilizing his entire community to help him do the same. Mayor Guerra states, quite plainly: "I ask you all to write letters to Mr. Musk asking him to continue the 70+ years of advanced technology manufacturing history at the site. It would be best if the letter writers would use their own words, so each letter is not a duplicate of the others. This would help tremendously. This is a great opportunity for our city to come together for something that will benefit us all for many years and continues our history as being a special place to live. I hope you will help and please pass this along to all your friends....You will also see some other things being done from City Hall in the near future to show Mr. Musk as much 'love' as possible and to let him know he is welcomed in our fine city and we would be honored to work together as a true partner in many way(s)." Hmmm. Well, at least we know what Downey's been up to on the topic of wooing Tesla. Perhaps Long Beach has been busy along these lines also, but we wouldn't know it based upon the, equally public, apparent misunderstanding and contention between Council member Schipske and City Manager West on this very matter during a recent Council Session. If we want Tesla's business, I think we need to get out act together on this matter and very, very soon. Juan Pardell John Greet - Perhaps you should now factor in the NUMMI plant of Fremont, CA., which is going to shut its doors in March of 2010. It would surprise me, if that location is not factored in as a possible site for Tesla's manufacturing & engineering facility. After all, it has most of the infrastructure already in place, and will be located just twenty (20) miles away from Tesla's headquarters. Angel Establishing a manufacturing home for Telsa here in Long Beach is both a vital and necessary for creating new Green employment opportunities as well as transitioning the Long Beach's economy that can benefit both our residents and Telsa for years to come. Long Beach offers CSU Long Beach and Long Beach City College as resources for advanced Technology Business partnerships with Telsa as well as tax incentives to conduct and grow its business in Long Beach and facilitate access to our port. A Win/ Win situation both! So Mayor Foster with the fully and complete support of our Council and Business Community tell Mr. Elon Musk to make Telsa a "show case" employer for his Star Product in the great International City of Long Beach! Sorry Downey, but you have NO comparable resources or international reputation! Keith A.. Ryan, LBPost used to have related stories or key words about the same subject just below the story header. I do not find that anymore so it is just as easy to use the "Search Post Archives" window box for some related stories. It is very interesting that the "Tesla" subject goes back before: Tesla Excitement by Nancy Pfeffer | Moving Green | 07.04.08...almost more than a year ago! Today there are eleven related stories and growing.
