Long Beach Nursery Named One Of LA County's "Unsung Heroes"

Tonight, Long Beach’s own Day Nursery will be one of just three organizations honored in the “Education” category by the California Community Foundation and The Eisner Foundation in their annual Unsung Heroes award night.  Fifteen non-profits from around Los Angeles County will be recognized for their outstanding work in under-served communities. The event will be held at the Getty Center in Los Angeles. Click here for more on the award and the event.

We ran an article about some of the outstanding work being done at the Day Nursery back in March of 2008.  Click here to read it.

Each organization being honored will receive a $5,000 prize, while three “Valedictorian” groups will receive $10,000. The winners will be announced tonight, but any monetary award will do wonders for the Day Nursery, which – like most non-profits – has struggled with budget cuts and a decrease in philanthropic donations in recent years.

Executive Director Patrice Wong says that the nursery was forced to enact layoffs amidst a shrinking budget, but that next year’s financial situation looks brighter. Join us in congratulating the Long Beach Day Nursery for the distinction they’ve earned tonight!
