Thousands have packed the Long Beach Convention Center and Long Beach Arena this week to hear droves of motivational speakers at the 2009 Women's Conference, hosted by California First Lady Maria Shriver and attended by dozens of high-profile speakers ranging from former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright to CBS News anchor Katie Couric. You can view some of today's speeches live on the event website, here, and check out some fantastic images of the event below. All photos by Yvonne.

Amazing, I hope one year I am actually able to go.

It is wonderful that they are showcasing powerful women.

One Sided Perspective
All liberals. How about a powerful woman conservative speaker like Ann Coulter or Congresswoman Michelle Bachman? It will never happen.

I have a "women's conference tv" On my site, check it out!

Not to let the facts get in the way of a comment, but Amy Holmes is a self identified conservative as is Meghan McCain, who was also there (Condoleezza Rice was a speaker last year). The speakers present had a wide ranging backgrouds including finance, entrepreneurship, athletics, business ownnership, non-profit work, and journalism. Additionally, many speakers did not speak to any particular political ideology, that was not the purpose of the day at all.

What a wonderful event with amazing women. Elizabeth Smart is an incredibly admirable young woman. And to "One sided perspective", the reason mean-spired and insane women like Coulter or Bachman aren't there is because they're mean-spirited and insane! Sorry, if you hate liberals, but they are the smart and decent women!

I disagree with the comment that this was a liberal conference. When we can acknowledge our 'differences' and see ourselves as members of the 'whole'...the US community...and the world community, we will heal. Jane Goodall is an ambassador of Peace...she received one of the Minerva awards. There were others who give care to people with HIV-AIDS, and one award went to a woman who created a wonderful hospice for dying children and their families. All in all, inspirational. One last thought...can we begin to see beyond the 'old' paradigm of 'them' and 'us'. I pray that we can.

I will believe this is a politically balanced conference with they invite Laura Bush to speak.

Monica
One Sided Perspective, you're missing the point. This isn't a political conference. It originated as a businesswomen's conference and evolved into broader subjects relevant to women. And how do we know Laura Bush wasn't invited? Perhaps she was and chose to decline.

Funny, I didn't realize this event was about political balance or even politics at all...silly me thought it was just about a wide variety of things in life that hard working and intelligent women have contributed their love, passion and efforts towards, and shown exceptional progress or successes in. Did I miss something???

One Sided Perspective
I have lived in Long Beach since the very first Women's Conference, if you look at the list of speakers over the years, they are overwhelmingly from the politcal left so their perspective on everything is skewed that way. It is just subtle so you don't even realize it, but believe me, it is no accident. Open your eyes, it is a political conference.
