Extreme athlete Travis Pastrana set a Guinness World Record on New Year's Eve with a 269-foot jump across the Pacific Ocean in a rally car.

More than 35,000 people attended the event on the Pine Avenue Pier and millions more watched the festivities live on ESPN.

Pastrana celebrated his record by ascending to the ramp's highest point and saluting the massive crowd, then black-flipping into the surely cold (and polluted) Pacific Ocean.

Travis! That, was awesome! You da man..

Good jump. Not Pacific Ocean, but a good jump. Think of our brave service people that have to do things just as scary for our Country.

Can anyone explain to me the logic by which Long Beach allowed this air-fouling non-sense while prohibiting me and other truckers from accessing the ports to conduct legitimate business because our trucks don't satisfy CARB requirements? Long Beach need not worry about me coming back! (I ought to sue for a refund of what I've spent trying to comply with your clean air regulations.) Rest assured of this: by never coming back I'm doing my part to help the folks of Long Beach breathe better.

I guess the people at LBPOST.COM did not read the article. "Extreme athlete Travis Pastrana set a Guinness World Record on New Year's Eve with a 274-foot jump across the Pacific Ocean in a rally car." I thought it was 269 feet!!!

rob
longest jump for a rally car. The worlds longest jump was done last week in calif by a offroad trophy truck over 300ft jump.

Erin
35,000 people attended? How do you figure?

Thank you Red Bull for bringing this event to Long Beach!

Pam
That was an amazing jump and Long Beach looked beautiful! And, Bill, you are obviously no loss to Long Beach. Good riddance and continue on with your sad life. Yikes, what a fun guy!! I'll take crazy Travis any old day!

Umm....Bill: Get a life. There will be plenty of starving truckers lined up to pick up containers in the port while you sit home and pout. I'm sure there's lots of pickups awaiting you in Bakersfield, Blythe,Colton, Fontana, etc. Ironically, gearheads, truckers and people like you were probably a large part of the target audience of this "event". You're like the NASCAR crowd - easily entertained and trash-tastic. Just what Long Beach caters to. My question is: Will this event bring in ongoing business to the downtown area or was this a one-time thing like so many of the conventions that we get? Will restaurants (forget stores - there's no shopping in downtown LB beyond the Down and Dirty Discount Depot called City Place) - be able to count on repeat customers or were these people driven away by parking rates that are astronomical. Lord knows there's no attraction for locals in downtown. We'd best hope that these fools had a good time and are willing to come back and drop big bucks. None of the locals will.

We drove from Antelope Valley to wittness the event and had such a blast! The jump was awesome not to mention the bands, people dancing in the streets, ringing in the New Year on resturant patios. A great time. We will visit again for sure!
