cityemployee Speaking for myself, I am affected when these shootings and murders happen in our neighborhoods. My condolences to the victims' families. scaredLBresident I'm really concerned about all these shootings that are happening. All of the reports say police suspect they are gang-related (I'm talking specifically about the fatal shootings in Wrigley that happened last year and this year, and the one on 9th and Orange, amongst others) and then that's the last we hear about them. We never get any information about suspect descriptions or circumstances or any follow-up with these homicides. Are they all unsolved and still ongoing? The only one I've heard more about is Melody Ross' murderers, and that was because it was all over the news. None of these other shootings seem to get more than an initial couple paragraphs in the local online news, and then we never hear any positive news about what the police are doing about them. I'm sure they are working hard to solve these fatal crimes, I just want to hear more about it. The Long Beach Police website and the newspapers needs to do more to reassure LB residents that they are investigating these crimes and working to make the city safer. LBster My wife's family lives in that neighborhood 1.5 blocks from that spot, and a block from were the guy playing basketball got shot dead last year over an I-pod. When we were dating there were (still are) cop cars, sirens, flashing lights, helicopters and spot lights going almost every night when I dropped her off. We don't live there luckily, but her family, along with many other average working families do. Most of them are decent people just trying to raise families, but they are lower income and can't afford a less dangerous neighborhood. It makes me sick that these decent people have to live with the gang-banging filth that also inhabit the area. I wish we could pass a zero tolerance law for gangsters. Join a gang, get shipped off to some rock quarry far away from the humans. annoyedLBC I live in the area of where all this is going on. I do not understand what is worth dying at 18. I see these kids, they don't have fancy cars (so they aren't making allot of money off drugs), they don't have any girls really hanging around.....if your going to risk your life have the gamble vaugley worth it. I think all these land lords who rent to these losers should kick them out. How about a gang member data base you could look up and see if they were/are a gang banger like for sex offenders. Kick these losers out of public housing and off welfare. Anything that allows these kids ideal time to listen to their rap crap and dream about hardness get rid of. Its really ashame these kids/and "adults" could be so selfish to not allow kids the oppertunity to play outside. Where's Clint Eastwood when you need him? Long Beach bring down the break water and price these losers out of town. CHARLIE I think the LBPD is doing everything possible to prevent such activities and most probably are gang related - it's the "Signs of the Times" and my prayers are with everyone envoled! Ryan P This is what happens when you continue to build subsidized and Section 8 housing in the unfavorable neighborhoods of LB. These poor areas never have a chance to change and get better because the city encourages low income families to live there! Let's face it; Most of downtown LB is a scary dangerous place to be at night. I never go anywhere below PCH all the way down to Ocean. If Ocean is full of traffic, I will wait in it because I am afraid to drive anywhere between Broadway and 17th St! The entirety of Long Beach from PCH at the traffic circle down to the 710, and then from 17th down to Broadway needs to be cleaned up or just demolished because it is dirty, crime filled, and unsafe. No wonder no one visits downtown LB when most people have to drive through THAT. Anonymous Ryan P, I agree they need to build subsidized and Section 8 housing. Living by the beach is a privilege not a right. I live south of Broadway and even I rarely go north of it. But east of Alamitos you can usually go as far north as 4th St. before things get bad. Retro Row is cool. Stop Terrorism Gangs are terrorists. They use weapons, fear and murder as a means to control communities and their black markets. Where is the department of homeland security? These people are terrorizing and have been terrorizing us for years. I'm tired of having to worry about whether my cousin will get shot just because she's walking around the neighborhood. I'm tired of my family always moving to escape gangs which are spreading throughout our country and other countries like wildfire. This is the homeland, these are the terrorists, secure it!
