City Attorney Endorsements: LBPOA & More by Ryan ZumMallen | Long Beach News | 02.02.10 | | Text Size: +
1:08pm | Long Beach City Attorney Robert Shannon revealed several powerful endorsements today in his bid to win re-election in the citywide April 13 vote, announcing the support of Los Angeles City Attorney Carmen A. Trutanich, Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca and the Long Beach Police Officers Association. Shannon faces opposition in the race for City Attorney by current City Prosecutor Tom Reeves. “I am honored to have the support of prominent law enforcement officials,” Shannon said in a press release. “Protecting residents and keeping our neighborhoods safe is one of my top priorities as City Attorney. I am proud to earn the united endorsement of law enforcement officials, supporting my efforts to make Long Beach safe for all residents.” Shannon is seeking his fourth term, having served as City Attorney for the past twelve years. His opponent, Reeves, has served as City Prosecutor for the same amount of time. Comments

Paul This office is way over due for a change. Shannon is part of the Old City Family that has held us back for decades. I know Tom Reeves. He is a no nonsense type of guy. A demanding, but fair boss. He does not need endorsments looking for a puppet. His record as a self made person speaks greatly, to give voters the confidence to vote Tom Reeves. It will be a good decision for Long Beach. gt I agree with Paul. Today when I hear that a candidate has the endorsement from the LBPOA or any one of the other unions I hear union hack. People of this city and state please please do your homework. The average federal salary is 73,000 per year plus benefits. The average public salary is 41,000 no benefits. The union hacks for political purpose have bent over for the union membership to buy votes, period. In the past a person went into government jobs to do good for a salary that was not as high as in the public sector, but had security, we now live in a society like that of soviet russia where the government jobs pay the most and have all the security. That is a society in decline. Just look at our state, billions and billions in debt, predominately because of long term pension and healthcare for our supposedly under payed state employees and ditto for our federal hacks. Wake up and vote out those that put up their union supporters. If not when the ship sinks it will be your fault.
