2:35pm | Congressmember Laura Richardson (D - Long Beach) was appointed yesterday to the position as Chair of Emergency Communications, Preparedness and Response, a subcommittee of the Homeland Security Committee.

“The Homeland Security Committee was instituted after September 11, 2001 to provide security oversight and focus for our homeland, the United States of America. After the fiasco in New Orleans and the recent penetration of flight 253 this last Christmas, I stand ready in this vital capacity,” Richardson stated in a press release yesterday.

“As we face one of our most difficult tasks, ensuring there is confidence and protection in our homeland, I hope to bring the lessons of my district — ports, airports, water treatment and refineries — as examples of America's vulnerabilities and needs. I am thankful for the confidence that Chairman Thompson has shown in me as a member of the committee and for making it possible for me to serve in this new capacity. I look forward to sharing my expertise to bring value and support the goals of the Chairman and the Homeland Security community.”

Richardson leads the subcommittee's twelve other members in the effort to monitor FEMA, prepare for responding to terrorism, coordinating communication between several levels of government terrorism-related response and preparedness and other duties.

Oh My God! - this is the same lady who praises the "fredom of speech, freedom of religion and freedom of travel" in Cuba. She can't even pay her mortgage. She continues to be under investigation for her ethics. This is an outragious appointment. Have we gone nuts!!!!

damn. i wanted to be the first to comment on this but i was still recovering from the Lowenthal piece and his asinine, back-peddling remarks. but no jim, i dont think it's a joke. when somebody puts an incompetent, moronic imbecile like her in this position, its just another sad reason our country is going in the wrong direction. lord, lordy - help us all...

Make her stop!
I'm liberal, I'm all about helping the environment and helping low income people. But, this woman, she's something else! For those she's worked with, she's seems good because she helps them and they make her look good. When it comes to the rest of us, as if! Never has she taken the time to respond to any voicemail or emails or any contact i've made to her. She's done nothing for our city, except yeah help bring in stimulus money, but that's only debt. Even so, she got it by being buddy buddy with the right people. We need a strong candidate, whoever you vote for, vote against her!

Whining in the Wilderness of the 4th district of Long Beach. Today as i climbed out from under my rock i noticed it was/is raining, great: love the rain am only truly alive when it is raining , BUT and this is a big but not when the shipping containers the good city of Long Beacvh put out for the flood soaked Edge of Heights , victims, are now full to overflowing and the pollution of these giants is flowing down the stormdrains and into the OCEAN as we speak. So already an update , the city came and picked up the containers but left a wake of debris in the street and on the sidewalk ! So this is to alert the Ocean -----> that a ***T load of toxic waste is heading your way and there is no one to stop it .

Tre'
Voice of One Whining in the Wilderness hey maybe this will be her first job to remove the trash from y our street.

It's cheaper to put out a few dumpers to put or flooder out homes in, than fix the flooding problems in Long Beach.

Come on people this is Congresswoman Richardson that were talking about, all she's going to do is rent a few more house that she won't pay for and get some money for groups that don't have anything to with whatever she's in charge of. This woman is a joke, but hey I guess the real joke is on us, we keep electing her.

Mayor Bob
Good Citizens, have any though to call Hazmat! We can't allow this to get in to the sea. Grab a broom and block those drains.

Whining in the Wilderness: It's baaaaack ! The Trash Container was removed but returned emptied of its toxic flow to be filled again to be rained on again and so on ...So again, i feel the urge to WARN someone who can stop this DUMPING INTO OUR STORM DRAINS which drain directly to the ocean. The debris that was strewn all over the street has long drained and will soon find its way to the beaches our citizens swim in. Who is driving this run-away-train-of a- town ? Is there anyone at the wheel anyone at all ?
