With strong rains predicted for Friday and Saturday, the City of Long Beach has issued a warning to residents. style="font-family: Arial;" size="2;">562.570.2700A list of emergency numbers is below. Luis Maimoni Wait, you're asking me to NOT touch the downed power line during a rainstorm? Who knew? Can I touch it AFTER the rainstorms? Larry Fire stations were running out of sandbags and were sending people to SouthCoastShingle/A-1 Bldg. materials. We have both sand bulk and empty bags, as well as filled sand bags to purchase. Phone- 562/ 531-1874 or 634-7100 . Capt.Hugh Conroy All residents must check "all" street drainage, to insure that collected run-off is being delivered to storm drains. Brian I find it amazing that this is the only place to find any relevant information about the rain/flood. As someone who is still cleaning up from the flood of the 19th, I continue to wait for the city to admit that THEY were responsible for it or do more than just leaving big trash bins on our street. I wonder what Bob Foster does all day? Does he play golf? Does he attend "important" meetings? He sure hasn't come to our neighborhood to talk with us. It could be worse, we could be stuck with Tony Villar. Your Mayor Message from Your Mayor: If you need to go outside today, understand that you may get wet. Proper use of an umbrella can prevent this, but will not prevent wetness caused by events other than rainfall. Use of an umbrella when rain is NOT falling should be restricted to holding it, unopened, in your hand. Should you find yourself wet due to rainfall, a towel may help to alleviate your discomfort through the process of 'drying' yourself. Towels may also be used to reduce wetness unrelated to rainfall, though each instance is unique and may require bloviation from another Long Beach elected official. Adequate common sense may help you to avoid becoming damp due to today's precipitation, but if you have read this far, this observation probably will not help you. Remember -- rain falls DOWN! Put your umbrella ABOVE your head! During periods of rain, that is. I can't stress this enough. There will be no questions. That is all. kuz Why isn't there a warning and info. posted on the front page of the LBC website? One would be lost if s/he didn't know about LBPost.com CHARLIE Keep your powder dry! TheVoiceOfOne- Whining in the Wilderness. Real cute the bit about the umbellas and where to put them...too bad the city of LONG BEACH storm drains are NEVER adequate to actually be called STORM DRAINS ! I mean, isn't that what storm drains are for to keep the RESIDENTS dry during periods of a STORM? I knew you'd catch on eventually. The HEAD STORM DRAIN OFFICIAL , a MR.TANG, said this was a '100 year event" OH really Mr. TANG , then why has there been at least THREE ' ONE HUNDRED YEAR' RAIN EVENTS in the last 20 years ? So that means Long Beach has a Major RAINSTORM EVERY TEN YEARS...so =10 years is the new 100 years. So that would also explain why in one flooded LONG BEACH condo complex the storm catch basin was removed during a REMODEL PROJECT and the city never replaced it ! waaaaaaaahhhhhhhhaaaattttt ? No one even knew it was missing. SAD Off the Chain It is ridiculous that the city wants to cram it down our throats that the recent flooding was an act of God , it isn't an act of God when it happens on a regular basis . Every ten years we will be flooded and every ten years or so the city will blame God or someone. Walkingthur The city will keep blaming anyone or anything and as long as we aollow them to get a way with it, we will have these flood problems every 10 or so years. Surfer Dude The whole problem with the storm drains would be fixed if we just dismantal the breakwater, man. drum we complain when there's not enough water, we complain when there's too much!
