+ 10:00am | The Long Beach Playhouse Theatres will celebrate its 80th anniversary in style this upcoming weekend with a Speakeasy-style reception and dinner to recognize the history of the award-winning theatre. The reception begins at 5:30pm at the Renaissance Long Beach Hotel this Saturday.Honorable guests will include movie stars from the past such as Gloria Swanson and George Raft. Real life distinguished guests will include Musical Theater West director Paul Garman, Memorial Miller Children’s Hospital pediatrician Dr. Mel Marks and Los Angeles County Supervisor Don Knabe. Long Beach Mayor Bob Foster is also expected to attend. Dress in your finest vintage attire, and visit this website for ticket information. Luis Lozano Congratulations to L.B. Playhouse. It would be more enjoyable if it didn't coincide with the demise of the Pasadena Playhouse, another great institution that has fallen victim to the economic downturn.
