8:00am | One of the most important strategic decisions made in the three-year history of the LBPOST.com was the commitment to provide our readers with local sports coverage. Long Beach produces an astounding array of talented athletes in every sport,

and we saw the opportunity to take one giant leap forward by figuring out a way to cover every sports team in the City.

In March of 2008, we launched LBPOSTsports.com and began providing game scores and analysis for all local sports – from high school basketball to collegiate tennis and everything in between. LBPOSTSports.com managing editors Mike Guardabascio and J.J. Fiddler were also hired to run our sports operation and the course of Long Beach sports coverage was immediately altered for the better.

The decision to pursue sports coverage instantly increased our content produced by the LBPOST.com and expanded our brand to reach an entirely new segment of Long Beach.

Mike and J.J. injected local sports coverage with knowledgeable insight, inside sources that led to several breaking stories and – of course – the video highlights that would come to be the website’s trademark. They also hosted SportsNight, a weekly internet podcast talk show.

Since that official launch date in 2008, the LBPOSTsports.com writers have been responsible for providing such outstanding work as the incredible tale of record-breaking Poly High distance runner Dynasty Gammage (click here), stunning video highlights of Lakewood football’s first victory over Poly in 28 years (click here), and recently breaking the story of the rift between Long Beach State and historic Shore Aquatics (click here).

In fact, Mike and J.J. were recognized just last night during the Long Beach Century Club Awards Banquet with the Keith Cordes Award for best promotion of the city through sports. We at the LBPOST.com are extremely proud of the outstanding work that Mike and J.J. have done and look forward to many more years of providing first place sports coverage.

You guys have been great. One thing I especially like was the postgame conference on video of Coach Monson. Any chance we could get those postgames on video for every LBSU basketball game?

Congrats Mike & JJ! I am amazed everyday by the quality and quantity of coverage you provide. Thanks so much - you deserve that award and more.

So glad I was able to attend! Congrats!

Way to go LBPOST.com. It was always a little hard to get local sports news. You guys took it to a different level. Congrats on the Century Club Award. I would have enjoyed being there but Bend, OR is 850 miles away. Keep up the great work.....Keith Cordes former Century Club President

I agree--well deserved--great job! I also like the post game conference on video. Perhaps you can have a feature "Monson Mondays" where you sit down and talk with the coach about the games of the previous week and the games to come. Although, I hate to ask for more when you are clearly already superb! Keep up the great work!

You guys deserved the award! Congratualtions! You've been so supportive and done such an outstanding job covering local athletes. Thank you!

thanks everyone! Keith, it would've been great to meet but I know we'll see you somewhere around the Bend (har har har)

I hope that you will cover all sports aside from the usual football, soccer and water polo, etc. There are many young athletes that belong to high school athletic teams and never see a reporter. Particularly for women/girls sports. I hope your coverage is across all types of athletics. Thanks for doing this...but always remember athletics is only one component of young athletes persona, there is school, grades and a healthy lifestyle.

Pat, we absolutely cover equally across both genders! The girls' high school athletics programs in Long Beach have actually been more prolific in terms of CIF championships in the last decade than the boys', so we'd really be missing the boat if we weren't covering girls' basketball, soccer, and softball!

Mike & JJ have been doing such a fantastic job covering ALL the LB sports. The first thing I do in the morning when I get to work is read LBpostsports! Thank you guys!!!

If you want to be the #1 sports publication in Long Beach, you need to incorporate bullriding, spelling bee, lumberjacking, and pro wrestling in your coverage. That is what the modern sports audience is thirsty for. You also need to write about local residents that you think are important, and give them crafty nicknames and tell all about how you dined with them at Phil Trani's the night before...
