Mayor Bob Foster Appointed By Governor To Electricity Board by Ryan ZumMallen | Archive | 03.05.10 |
+ ![]() 5:00am | Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger appointed Mayor Bob Foster to the California Independent Systems Operators (ISO) Board of Governors yesterday a position that requires confirmation from the State Senate and does not pay a salary. The California ISO coordinates, controls and monitors the operation of the State’s electrical power system. The ISO is charged with managing the “flow of electricity across the high-voltage, longdistance power lines that make up the bulk of California’s power grid. Its job is to keep a pulse on the electrical lifeblood of the economy and safeguard the well-being of 30 million people by ‘keeping the lights on’.” Mayor Foster has over 30 years of experience in the electricity industry. He worked for Southern California Edison from 1984 until retiring in 2006 to run for Mayor. He served as president of SCE from 2002 to 2006. In the 1970’s, Foster served the California Energy Commission as deputy executive director and chief of the energy conservation division.According to ISO president and CEO Yakout Mansour in his 2008 annual report message, the ISO works “smarter to develop a sustainable power grid that uses advanced technologies to maximize megawatts and minimize environmental impacts. Rising out of the shadow of a nearly 100-year-old transmission system is a modern grid that communicates information in milliseconds to the ISO control rooms charged with reliably managing a network of over 25,000 circuit-miles of power lines serving 30 million Californians.” Click here to read our policy on covering the Long Beach City Council.

Steve Warshauer "Shocking" Where's Solar? I have a textbook from the 70's showing solar panels and predicting that the dependence on oil will lead us to being completely solar by the 21st century. For a place that rains a few day out of the year I still do not understand why we are importing energy. I would think that any former CEO of Edison and mayor who's now in charge of a grid that serve 30 million, solar would be a priorty. Where's Solar? Jane Templin It is rare these days for our Governer to do something right, in appointing Bob Foster this is right on many levels. Mayor Foster's experience, his concern for Californias' people, his work ethic all come together to make him the best possible person for this position. I hope the State Senate doesn't drag their feet on this confirmation. Doug So he worked in the upper levels of SCE, the same group that colluded with Enron to shut off our electricity and scam Californians out of tons of money, and now we are going to trust him to "keep the lights on"? Outrageous. This crook shouldn't be appointed to anything. The Outpost @Doug ... Thought you might be interested to know that Edison FOUGHT Enron....many people in Long Beach will remember Mayor Foster spoke out against then city manager Taboada's efforts to enter into a contract with Enron to provide electricity to LB. Who cares? Nobody cares about him or his job(s) or our lame-duck governor. He is running for re-election opposed only by a crazy lefty college student. Everyone wishes Beverly was still Mayor.
