Police and FBI agents are on scene and attempting to determine where the shots came from. lbresident I know it happens all the time but I can't believe people are stupid enough to still try to rob banks. MargoC If this is really the bank robber who has been all over Long Beach robbing banks, and taking off on a motorcycle....so glad he has finally been caught. Keith A. LBPOST.com is quick with the news! I heard & saw this on KABC-7 TV at about 11:40 AM. Great Job with local news! lb gal just wondering who was packin' in the bank besides the robber?!?!? Frank Swatek Does anyone know who shot who yet ? LoveLB A motorcycle was being put on a tow truck in the parking lot of the F & M on Bellflower Blvd at 1:15 p.m. today. Lots of LBPD and channels 2 & 9 news vans were there. The entire block was cordoned off. The motorcycle must have belonged to one of the three shot. I was coming to deposit my check today. beagle sad. i just wish banks would get the hint and stop having so much money on hand. don't they know what a temptation it is? they should just issue IOU's and give the "real" money to the treasury for safe keeping. clearly they are a threat to public safety with all of that money just laying around begging to be stolen! beagle LBresident, you have much to learn about human nature. IT'S MONEY Carpe Diem beagle--are you kidding? What do you think dollar bills are? They are notes for real money...gold...which our system is no longer backed by...wow...so interesting...here's a link to the first in a 5 part series that explains it... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KyDU4X8GSmE LBprGuy @Keith A. - Yep, only a few minutes behind [a local news outlet].com this time. Not bad. lbresident fine. but I'm just saying if I'm a criminal it seems like there are easier/safer ways to steal. MargoC Oh c'mon. Are we now blaming the bank? A Great bank That serves notice to all bank robbers, don't mess with Farmers & Merchants Bank. Strong, Safe, Conservative; and now packing fire power. Sorry to hear about the customers, but I'm glad they got the bad guy! Gary hmmm...was there a Starbucks in the lobby? lbresident Good point. This will be the last time someone tries to rob that bank for awhile. Anne I believe that within the last two months a womans purse was taken in the parking lot. I thought they had a security guard. Maybe he was on a break! Noahs & Charter Comm share the parking area. lbresident according to the PT, customers tackled and held the bad guy. One of the people shot was the bad guy and another was the guy that tackled him. km I work at one of the banks that was robbed by this criminal. He is a very awful person and I am so glad he was caught! beagle- Banks have to keep enough money on hand to service their customers. If we kept no money then having a bank would be pointless. And yes, robbing a bank is extremely stupid, the criminals USUALLY dont get away with much money and are always eventually caught. Blog to News? Wow, you guys are really stepping up the game here. You have gone from being a blog post to a news source in my books over night with this posting. Good Job!!!! KM ? Bank robbery is an automatic Federal Crime. The average national take is about $5100.00 and over 50% has a dye pack which blows ink all over the money. The standard is a gun but many people think that if they just pass a note and say they have a gun if they get caught and did not have a weapon that they will not do long term sentences, this is not true, If a gun is implied it is a threat with a weapon. Same punishment. It is a stupid crime period but it can be very dangerous as well due to armed security officers who do not keep their shooting skills up. I am sure you will find that is the case here at the FM bank job. Innocent people can get seriously hurt during these types of operations and people need to be aware of their surroundings while in a bank. See someone with a disguise turn around and leave and dial 911 Ben C. What's the posted reward money on this clown? No body has posted it yet? Bixby Knolls Resident I know someone who works at that bank and she informed me that it was one of the customers that tackled the robber during his attempt to jump over the counter. I also bank at F&M and in a strange way, this type of community action makes me feel proud to bank there. Imagine a place where the clients take care of the institution and are willing to put themselves in harms way to protect and serve! I could not imagine that happening at Wells or BofA or any other mega-corp bank...at those places I would probably be witnessing the clients helping to pack the bags of the robber and opening the door for him! F&M keep up the good work and thanks for being a local part of our community! Kate K It was in the P-T today--two customers subdued the creep. He accidentally shot himself (the old saw about most criminals being criminals because they're too dumb to do anything else). One of the guys acted brilliantly--he spotted the guy's helmet and outfit as soon as he went in and alerted the bank manager. Then, they tackled the guy. Risked their lives. Saves me the trouble of thinking of whom to nominate as the PErson of the YEar in December.
