10:00am | Get your medulla oblongatas ready, kids, because the 9th annual National Elementary School Spelling Bee will take place this weekend and the winner will take home a $1,000 prize.

The competition is open to students between 3rd and 5th grade, and will be held this Sunday, March 14, at the Bay Shore Church auditorium at 5100 E. The Toledo in Long Beach. The entry fee is $30 per student before the event on Sunday. Entry information and additional details can be found on this

. There are also some helpful tools like frequently asked questions, preparation advice, and a list of the 100 most commonly mispelled words.

The bee is hosted by local activist Justin Rudd and his Community Action Team (CAT) non-profit organization. CAT also hosts an adult spelling bee each April.

P.S. Kudos to the first person who can point out the misspelled word in this article.

Misspelled word: mispelled. "There are also some helpful tools like frequently asked questions, preparation advice, and a list of the 100 most commonly mispelled words."

Fitting that the word misspelled in the article would be right under our eyes. *grin*

Amy
looks like two words are misspelled. One being "mispelled" in the second paragraph. And oblongotas should be oblongatas.

Glad there's time for spelling bees so kids can be honored for a challenging academic event. Hopefully, they will have more than medulla oblongatas ready as that part of the brain pretty much just functions to keep a person awake and breathing with a heart beat. :)

Nice catches everyone! And Amy, I even checked the spelling of oblongata and still typed it incorrectly, haha! It's been fixed :)
