Dan Pressburg Out Of 9th District Council Race by Ryan ZumMallen | Archive | 03.21.10 |
+ 12:45pm | Long Beach City Council candidate Dan Pressburg announced today in a press release that he is withdrawing from the 9th District race. Pressburg cites health reasons. His complete statement is provided below: Today it is with deep regret that I must withdraw as a candidate for city council in the ninth district. The reason for this action is that I have a blood clot in my right leg that complicates a birth defect that I was diagnosed with. Although neither are life threatening individually, together they place my health at risk. The people of North Long Beach should have someone who can hit the ground running and deliver a vision that is inclusive and protects the taxpayer. That vision must restore public safety by starting the process for a police and fire academy and one that deals with youth and gang violence intervention and prevention. There must be new budget reform that is comprehensive and deals with our needs instead of the traditional voodoo budget that depends on unfounded and unresolved revenues and rewards overspending and the pension potholes that got us here. North Long Beach must prepare to have shovel ready projects that protect RDA dollars so we are not an easy target and piggy bank for project across the city or schemes to bail out the budget to pay other debt. We must place people before politics and protect and utilize adaptive reuse and continue to restore our neighborhoods and community. Currently, I am not supporting or endorsing anyone and am turning my efforts to just getting well and restoring my health. I would like to thank my campaign manager and the many volunteers who have devoted their time and efforts to my campaign. This was not an easy decision. I would also like to thank the media for their fairness and coverage. Thank you all once again. Sincerely, /s/ Dan PressburgClick here to read our policy on covering the Long Beach City Council.

E. Thor Carlson Get well Dan, we need you working for the community again. JimL Take care of yourself, Dan. You are doing much for yoru community and it is appreciated. Louise in the East Villag Gee Dan, I feel for ya and hope you are not in too much pain. We are here praying and wishing you well. Please heed your own advice and put people (you, this time) before the politics. Then we can all celebrate together when you get back out on the scene. Your fellow classmate NLP Class of 2008. Louise Kripal Rickatsea I never met Mr. Pressburg but I must say had I lived in his district I may well have voted for him. I was impressed with his candor, his straight talk about the budget and his insight to what ails us at City Hall. I do hope his health improves. KaRi Hi Dan, you are very well respected. However I would think who were going to vote for you would feel better if you recommended someone, don't you? I always tell people "If you're out of the loop and have No Idea who to vote for, then find someone you respect and make their vote count twice!" Get well soon and keep smiling!
