So far, the results are: Brad Shore 248 votes, Dan Pressburg 110 votes, Val Lerch 371 votes and Steve Neal 556 votes. 10:42pm | James Johnson, pictured right (7th District): Johnson from campaign party at Necho's restaurant on Santa Fe, after finding out that he leads the 7th District race with one total vote thus far."I don't want to disappoint anybody, but the numbers are going to come down," Johnson told a crowd of about thirty supporters, including City Auditor Laura Doud. "There's a rumor that another vote may be coming in," he joked. Taking a seat, Johnson took time to reflect on his year-long campaign. "The only thing that's hard is not knowing what's going on," Johnson said of the slow-moving counting process. Votes have trickled in at a particularly slow rate in his race for the 7th District seat against Tonia Reyes Uranga, Jill Hill and Jack Smith. "The one thing you want to say is that you left it all on the table," he said of his campaign, which began exactly one year ago. "Back then we had a different Uranga in the race," he joked. "The one thing that's remained constant is we got out and reached the voters." With such a tight race and little information to go on, the admittedly-anxious Johnson was asked for his thoughts on a possible run-off election in June. "One election at a time," he said with a smile. 10:37pm | Below are the early Long Beach unofficial election results as of a few moments ago: City of Long Beach Primary Nominating Election April 13, 2010 Unofficial Results - Posted at 10:33 PM Registration and Turnout Completed Precincts: 31 of 358 Reg/Turnout Percentage Total Registered Voters 238,294 Precinct Registration 238,294 Precinct Ballots Cast 465 0.2% Vote-by-Mail Ballots Cast 17,496 7.3% Total Ballots Cast 17,961 7.5% Mayor Completed Precincts: 26 of 322 Vote Count Percentage BOB FOSTER 13,132 84.1% STEVIE DANIELLE MERINO 2,491 15.9% City Attorney Completed Precincts: 26 of 322 Vote Count Percentage ROBERT SHANNON 8,780 57.2% TOM REEVES 6,573 42.8% City Auditor Completed Precincts: 26 of 322 Vote Count Percentage LAURA DOUD 14,580 100.0% City Prosecutor Completed Precincts: 26 of 322 Vote Count Percentage DOUG HAUBERT 8,202 53.8% TIMOTHY O'REILLY 7,031 46.2% Council Member, District 1 Completed Precincts: 4 of 29 Vote Count Percentage ROBERT GARCIA 588 68.9% JANA SHIELDS 266 31.1% Council Member, District 3 Completed Precincts: 2 of 50 Vote Count Percentage GARY DELONG 2,938 67.6% TOM MARCHESE 765 17.6% TERRY G. Scott Blumenthal It's a shame we will have such a low voter turn out. How can any candidate represent the people in his district when only a small percentage vote? I wonder what would happen if everyone voted? Wonder if there is a way for this to happen. Good luck all! Charlie the Tuna Obama would never have gotten elected. Mrs. Kravitz The reason incumbents usually win is due to the low turnout at the polls. Seems for years absentee ballots make it or break it. And that is what people say I mailed it in and voted for everybody that was in So sad. But that may be why election day is seperate than any other election. Seems to me it could be included in the big ones just have a seperate City Voteing page. Resident Sadly, due to the low voter turnout and lack of interest, we may be stuck with the same incumbents... and the same incompetent management of the city. Judy C. To RYAN: Do you know why there is no mention of the write-in candidates yet? Larry You're Killing Me! With all the dollars spent on the City Clerk and his state of the art election stuff, it seems ridiculous that we can't get more info than this after two and a half hours!!!! Where's Shelba??? Paul The voters in this town are consistent in choosing by candidate hype or Family tradition, never knowing the true background of the candidates. With 30% of the State on the dole, and with probably a larger percentage in Long Beach, the future looks dim. By that, I mean being the social welfare town that we have evolved into. A large government housing project that never sees it's true beach town potential. We fit right in with Obama's Socialist/Communist type of thinking. At least the rest of the Country is awaking to the takeover of the American way of life that so many took for granted, until it has almost gone. Scott you are so right about the turn out. We are losing a bit of what our Country is about every time we don't vote for no good reason. Thanks to all that did vote. CHARLIE to PAUL Paul: You are so right about Obama and what's happening in our Country, but, I am happy to say I've never missed an election since my very first ballot cast in my teens, however, it will be the most important vote I'll ever cast in my 81 years of life come Midterm Elections NOV. 2ND - Lord Willing & the creek don't rise! You can guess how I'll vote while I sit down to my cup of Tea and contemplate my navel. :>) C.W. Paul, really? 30% of the 37 million people who live in California are on welfare? I've searched but I can't find that figure. Where did you get it? Also, throughout history I really can't find too many candidates who were chosen that were not "hyped". Hate and hype go hand in hand in politics, always has and unfortunately it seems as it always will, as your comments show. Summer Hansen I want to congratulate all those who have run for office. It is a very brave thing to do. People who run for office really care about what is going on. They really want to make things better. They realllllly care. They are givers and doers. They put up their own money so often at great sacrifice. They spend the precious time of their lives to be of service. No one is perfect. We are all flawed and should all have humility which includes the elected and all the rest of us. I don't think enough people realize how hard the jobs are of the people who are on the City Council and in other offices. There is so much they have to pay attention to that is hard, hard stuff, that takes lots of study and sacrifice of personal time and privacy. Let's all be more appreciative of their service and effort even though we may not agree with everything they do. And let all of us do things to make our world a better place and be supportive and encouraging to one another. Let's all do our best. Election Wait... there was an election? parent in 90807 I wish more residents would have voted but what can you do? I was hopeing for some fresh blood for the school board because business as usual just won't cut it. My son attends Hughes Middle School and what a difference there is. I commend the principal and staff for doing what is within their power in giving our kids the best they can, but I know it is the higher ups that need to change. I appreciate Mr. Price for trying!!
