A Zeppelin's-Eye View Of Long Beach

You all seemed to like the photos from our ride in a zeppelin last June so much, that we leapt at the chance to send The Lippke View out for a second ride!

The zeppelin - named Eureka - is owned and operated by Airship Ventures, and offered rides to commercial passengers for the past week before leaving town this morning.  The company says that the ship will return to Long Beach in January. Eureka is one of only three zeppelins in the world and the only one to offer commercial sight-seeing flights.

It's a chance to see the city in an incredibly unique way; a 360-degree view of all that Long Beach has to offer, taking off among the C-17's and the JetBlue's at the Long Beach Airport and hovering quietly above the coastline, the breakwater, the Port of Long Beach. It's a serene trip through the pockets of our city, and we hope you enjoy the view.

Incredible shots. Love the one of the lighthouse and the starkness of the ship in a circle of water.

Very cool, Samuel, thanks!!!

Leslie
Wow Samuel. You've done a really great job here with these photos. I live in LA, and never knew how cool Long Beach is. Makes me want to get up there in a dirigible too. I love the juxtaposition of the different temperatures of the photos: some clear, some b&w, some dusty, etc. I can almost hear the altitude. Great work!

Alix
Cool!

Ann
Lovely shots, but where was one of our valuable wetlands?

Marlyne
Wonderful photos...I can see my house from there. (But our air could be a bit clearer)

AWESEOME PHOTOS! Thanks for sharing!

Laurie Manny
Way cool, thanks for sharing. Great shots!

Breath Deep
These Pics tell a story.... PM (particulate matter) was nice and thick but very much a standard air quality for the LB. Hey that's it lets blame it all on the AQMD lack of accountability. The teen violence, economy, depressed attitudes, distressed port activity, all of it! Its in the Air LB. It not your fault! Just stop breathing and it will all go away.

These are the greatest pics ever! I had no idea there were so many islands in Long Beach. Thanks for sharing. You are like the best photographer ever!

CHARLIE
FANTABULOUSE!

KC
Had the delightful pleasure of taking one of these flights. The flight path doesn't go far enough south to shoot the wetlands. I'd love to do that, too, Ann!

Fantastic pictures. Truly capture the incredible textures, unique contrasts and diversity that is Long Beach! Makes me miss my years there, so very much!

Julie J
Amazing photos! There is so much to the LBC that you have captured here. Everyone enjoy!

Paige
Great photos! The only time I get to see LB from the air is during takeoffs or landings from the airport and it goes by much too fast! To be able to float above the scenery and neighborhoods at a leisurely pace...how nice.

Long Beach is an amazing city. Keep Loving it, caring for it and fighting for it, keep it safe. Invest in its businesses & buy its properties. We have something good here. P.S. A great flight in a zeppelin will help you regather your thoughts (& make you want to blow up the breakwater)

Bartman
Tee-Rific!

Duke Cullinan
Amazing photos! Thanks. Wanted to comment about the 11th photo, the overhead of a section of the breakwater: Look at the difference in color between the two bodies of water - right side free ocean, left side contained breakwater 'lagoon.' The right side is deep blue, left side is more of a green. Like the pool after too many little kids swam in it all day. Can't we do something about this? And why are there still people who are against fixing the breakwater?

Polly
It is so very sad to see what the developers have done building high rises and destroying our once beautiful coastline and air quality.

This is what distinguishes LB Post from other unworthy news sites. You have style and an intimate connection to the city that shows. Thanks for the awesome pictures.

Samuel - Thank You! LBPost - note how many comments are drawn on positive side articles like this one...there are many of us who much prefer this news focus over constant negative bombardment. Thanks for a great view of a beautiful city. Sure the developers have roughed it up compared to the "old days", but LBC is still a diverse and beautiful spot to be in as far as this writer is concerned. So...let's all just keep pulling together to fix the parts that aren't working and see what we can pull off. We might surprise ourselves...

Awesome!

Those are some of the coolest pics I've ever seen. Great job!!

I had the pleasure of riding in the zepplin. As impressive as the pictures posted here are, they do not do justice to the view. It was unlike anything I have ever experienced. The zepplin will be back in 2010. If you have a chance to go for a ride in it, do not pass it up. You have to experience this for yourself!
