Monica: This is precisely why the Parking Commission with jurisdiction in the area should be reconfigured. If it were, I believe it would become far more responsive to the needs and concerns of ALL of the stakeholders in Belmont Shore...residents, businesses and visitors alike, If you agree, please write to the Mayor and Council and express your support for this suggestion.

I support it, they should make that parking lane a bike lane... it is very dangerous to bike on 2nd in BS

Perhaps it would be better served if the traffic engineers look at the parking issue in BS. Why is it allowed that the employees working in the shore be allowed to park on my street? Top that off with 'I can't parallel park' so let's leave 6 inches between each car and the parking is gone for the residents. Why are you fighting about a valet service when you haven't addressed the most obvious of the parking situation for Residents? Speak!

Ryan: Neither Mr. Schneiter, individually, nor the Parking Commission collectively, can initiate such a "test model" valet parking project on a dedicated city street without prior approval from the City Traffic Engineer's office. If I’m not mistaken, the Belmont Shore Parking and Business Improvement Area Advisory Commission serves in an *advisory* capacity only. Specifically, this Commission “**Recommends** to the Mayor and City Council solutions to parking problems in Belmont Shore and the best utilization of funds obtained from the parking meters in Belmont Shore” (Emphasis added) and does not have any authority to initiate such a valet parking program, “test model” or otherwise, entirely on its own or without direct City oversight. Since such an operation would certainly impact traffic, including bus routes, along 2nd Street, our Traffic Engineer, or a member of his able Staff, would have to approve of this “test model” program *before* it went into operation. Long Beach Transit might desire input as well.

As a Belmot Shore resident (but far away from the proposed valet area) I oppose it for the simple reason that it will take away a pay lot and replace it with a most likely higher pay service. Plus more than likely put cars in the affected neighbrorhoods. In response to another of Mr. Ruehle's surveys I strongly supported a small parking structure so people could park, like in the South Bay beach areas, but few seem to want that. I also still don't know why there aren't shuttle services from the Ocean beach lots - there are so many spaces that sit emply there, even with the new changes to resident parking there. There are too many one-shot parking fixes rather than an overall parking solution to Shore parking. I'd like to see some group come up with several options rather than piece-meal all of this.

A valet parking garage might be a good idea if there were room for it. The area is really built up and real estate is pretty pricey there.

There may be 86 residents opposing valet parking on 2nd street, but did any of them have a reason why? Valet parking is a good solution to the ongoing parking problem. Perhaps more of the local residents would prefer empty storefronts? I don't think that any of us would like to see that. The development on the north east corner of 2nd Street and St. Joseph is a huge improvement to the Belmont Shore Community, have we already forgotten the days of the log cabin with the styrofoam roof? And what is the big deal about Kurt Schneiter proposing this? He has done a lot towards improving our community and environment. No one else seems to be making any suggestions to resolve this issue. Anytime someone presents a new idea, they are immediately shot down as if they did wrong. The parking problem will not go away. Santa Monica, West Hollywood and a lot of other communities are successful with valet parking. Let's give a little more support to the business community of 2nd Street who are huge risk takers and they too are residents. Let's look at solving this problem constructively. There will be compromises and communities will continually evolve......that is life.

this is not just a belmont shore issue. many folks in long beach go to belmont shore to shop and eat. it would be the same result if you asked people under airplanes if they would curtail flights. ruhls study is self serving.
