charlie, it's a myth. we don't need the breakwater. if the studies are ever completed in an unbiased way, you'll find that out. don't let the colonna's fool you. reconfiguring the breakwater in a sensible way is the key to taking LB to a new high level of prosperity

My family and I were at the movies. Everyone felt it immediately. I looked up, and there didn't appear to be anything which could fall on us other than the typical ceiling panels... so we opted to sit and ride it out. Seemed to last quite awhile - but the flick (Angels & Demons) was too good to leave. Surprised to see how many of the other audience members made their way to the door. Must be new to earthquake country.

Coincidentally, I too was watching Yes Man when the quake hit. Worst damage = a glass fell off the counter and into the sink.

If an off shore earthquake hits, you better be glad the breakwater is there!

I was in my apartment watching "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" when I felt the earthquake behind me. It felt like a big ball was rolled toward my place and it struck.

if we're gonna have earthquakes can't they at least destroy the breakwater!

Well I have lived through earthquakes my entire life and never been too concerned. Last night, I screamed for the 1st time and had to hold on. I would have to classify that one as a doozy!!!!!

To Pete S: I wonder how long it will take before some left-wing zealot blames the quake on Dick Cheney

Sitting watching Legally Blond - again. Peter said "earthquake" but I hardly felt it. The "girls" did. Trixie was outside because she pottied on the rug so we ran to bring her in. Her eyes were HUGE (she's a 5 year old white poodle).

I was bartending downtown when it hit. I wonder how long it will be before some religious nut blames it on The Pride Festival. Tick...tick...tick.

I was reading my two year-old daughter a bed-time story when the quake hit. This was her first earthquake experience-Boy, she has lots of stories and theories about that experience.

Was online (where I usually am) when it hit. Jumped into a doorway and held on for the ride. My stomach is now out of my throat. That was a good one!

Our upstairs picture window blew out! It is a 6 foot arched window. The frightening part is that there is a big piece of the glass sitting on the ledge as if waiting for the aftershocks to shake it to the ground.

The 1933 earthquake in LB measured in at 6.3 on the Richter Scale. Because this was pre-Field Act (which established building construction safety requirements), 120 people were killed.
PS - I goofed on the fault name in my previous post - it was on the Newport/Inglewood Fault, not the Anaheim one.

I believe the quake was a 4.7
Shook the house a little, threw a cupboard door open, but no damage.

I live in LB, but am currently down at my dads place in Laguna Woods. We felt it good here...hope my place is okay when I get home!

My Marine Corps artilleryman/
Vietnam Vet husband said it felt just like a bomb explosion and concussion. No damage here in Bixby Knolls - just a few outta-whack pictures on walls, tipped over knick-knacks and water sloshing out of pools. The maps show it to be on the Anaheim Fault, so it is good thing as that means it took some of the pressure off the earthquake fault that runs under LB and caused all the chaos in '33.

Ralph and I were sitting on 2nd St. on the patio at La Creperie. Without the loud noise, the ground beneath us felt like the movement of a freight train going by. We got up right away and stepped out onto the sidewalk, since there was a gas heating lamp hanging right above our table. We had just ordered. Most of the other patrons in the half-full restuarant also came out on to the sidewalk. The huge crystal chandeliers inside were swaying a bit, too. We went back to our table and had a nice meal, agreeing that if there was an aftershock we would leave cash and split. We also were reminding ourselves of what to do if such a thing happens during the night while sleeping. Be prepared.

I was playing online video games on the Playstation network (Killzone), and with my surround sound and the game going, it just felt like the game got really intense............ it wasn't until some glass and cologne bottles shattered in the bathroom, that I realized an earthquake was going on.
The shaking then got MORE intense, and it felt like the house was going to come down!
I cannot believe it is only a 5.0
That is really hard to believe.
This seemed MUCH more intense.

When the earthquake hit, I honestly was sitting on the toilet. I was not using the toilet, just sitting while I was trimming my fingernails. Still, not very glamorous. I hope when the big one hits I am doing something more exciting like kite surfing or eating Thai food.

Sitting in my living room, North Long Beach, when it hit HARD and didn't stop for a good few seconds. Every picture is askew and my bookshelf spit out lots of books and collectibles. Still haven't seen one of my cats, he's good and hidden!
