Have the police released information on the person who was shot? For instance, it would be relevant to know the person's name, his friends name, whether he had a prior police record, whether the person's blood tests indicated he was intoxicated and if so, in which bar did he become so intoxicated that he did something dumb enough to get him self shot.

The Belmont Shore Resident Association has been as proactive as any group anywhere in their attempt to maintain quality of life for their neighborhood. Asking God for help may help... But a recall of Dog would be better.

The police, the city council, the city enforcement, ABC, lets fact it, if we want help from them we'll be very disappointed. What is ailing our city is the same thing ailing our nation, estrangement from God. Time to get right with Him, then things will begin to change, when we ourselves turn to God and ask for His help.

Peninsula Resident: Call DeLong's Council Office at 570-6300 with your graffiti problem. Councilman DeLong and his staff have been VERY responsive to the Naples community.

Well if they didn't already know it, they know it now: "...the bad guys know there is only one late night police officer in beat 10..." Thanks, Mike.

You will probably have better luck getting Councilman DeLong's attention because you live on the peninsula. Us Belmont Shore residents haven't had much luck.

the recent outbreak of tagging in the shore and on the beaches is yet another indicator that not so nice behavior is finding its way on to this side of town. there has NEVER been taggin on the beaches and the shore like there has been in the last year. The Long Beach Lifeguards were just told they can expect severe cuts in their staffing for the summer of 2010, including fewer boat and truck patrols. WE need to voice our concerns loud and clear to De Long to get him to understand that this criminal element can't be allowed a foothold in the shore communities and that the budget needs to make room for lifeguard patrols to safeguard against criminal beach activity. In other words, it's not just the bars...it's the gangbanger element that is starting to surface in the shore and peninsula

At the residents request, Councilman DeLong has set up a meeting next week with residents living behind Legends bar who have repeatedly voiced concerns about the late night disturbances they are constantly subjected to. Councilman DeLongs condition for the meeting was that neither the Belmont Shore Residents Association President (me) nor one other resident advocate who lives on Covina Avenue could be allowed to attend the meeting. Banning me has been Councilman DeLongs standard stipulation before agreeing to attend any meeting.
This isnt the first time Councilman DeLong has met with this same group of residents about this issue. I cant wait to find out how he will spin the evidence from the multiple videos and the shooting last night.

At 7:00 AM, there were several TV news channels set up near Legends bar close to where the officer involved shooting took place. As expected, Business Association President and Legends bar owner Gene Rotondo downplayed the incident to the press. He claimed Belmont Shore to be a quiet community with few issues. No mention was made of yesterday's District Weekly article about the number of videos surfacing of increasingly violent late night public disturbances occurring in the community from over served bar patrons that dont live in our community.
I took the liberty of giving several of the news services a copy of the District Weekly with the page turned to this article. They appeared interested that there may be two sides to Mr. Rotondos story. While discussing this with the news media, I was hounded, name called, cussed at and continually interrupted by Business Association Vice President Dave Shlemmer, who with another Business Association advocate, tried to prevent my explanation of the other side of Mr. Rotondos false portrayal.

Belmont Shore residents have been complaining to the police, Councilman DeLong and the Mayor for over a year about the increasing problems stemming from over served bar patrons of the businesses owned by Councilman DeLongs friends. Each time, issues were downplayed and residents ignored. As a result, residents have been forced to resort to videotape and youtube to make them selves heard.
Isnt it ironic the 2nd Street officer involved shooting occurred the same day this article was published?
Isnt it ironic that two of the three recent public disturbance youtube videos posted on the District Weekly web site were recorded 200 feet from where the body lay after last nights Police Officer involved shooting?
Isnt it ironic the shooting occurred within 100 feet of Legends Bar which is the source of numerous resident complaints? This is the same Legends bar that is owned by Gene Rotondo, the President of the Business Association. The owner of the commercial property and Mr. Rotondos landlord is Bill Lorbeer, Vice Chairman of the Parking Commission.
Isnt it ironic that Legends bar, whose owner opposes additional policing, was one of five 2nd street businesses burglarized over the past couple weeks because the bad guys know there is only one late night police officer in beat 10, a huge area stretching from Belmont Shore to Seal Beach and encompassing over 30 bars.
Belmont Shore has now experienced a murder, a throat slashing and an Officer involved shooting over the last 9 months. When residents pleaded for help from the Police Department at the last Belmont Shore Residents Association meeting held on May 14, 2009, the officer told us to quote him when he TWICE said, YOUR ARE NOT GOING TO GET IT. What else needs to happen before the Councilman and Police consider staffing more police in Belmont Shore?
