Lima Time = Win

Yesterday, we showed you a link to the Sports Illustrated story about pitcher Jose Lima.  And last night the former All-Star shined at Blair Field.  "Vintage Lima Time" as they say Lima pitched eight innings to lead the Fleet to a 6-1 victory over the Yuma Scorpions.

Long Beach got behind Lima early, putting up three runs in their half of the 1st. Omar Bramasco extended his hitting streak to 18 games and brought in the night’s first run. The Fleet then capitalized on a couple of Yuma errors to push across two more runs to take the 3-0 advantage at the end of an inning of play.

But Long Beach wasn’t done. In their half of the 4th inning a 1-out Josh Womack for things started for the Fleet. He was driven in by a Bramasco sacrifice fly. J.J. Sherrill reached on another Scorpion error and the Armada took advantage. Back-to-back singles from Casey Garrison and Matt Edgecombe scored Sherrill, making it 5-1 Fleet.

Daryl Jones has continued to hit the ball better and socked a solo shot to straight away center in the 6th, his second homerun in as many games. That would prove to be all the Fleet needed as Long Beach went on to win the game 6-1.

Jose Lima’s eight innings of solid baseball gave him his second win of the season and his first since June 4th at Yuma. In fact, both of his wins this year have come against the Scorpions. His line for the night was 8 IP, 10 H, 4 K, 2 BB and an ER. All four of his strikeouts were of the swinging variety.

The Fleet has three left in this home series against Yuma. Tomorrow’s pitcher for the Armada will be left hander Ben Fox. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm.
