Armada Owners Prepare To Sue City Over Blair Field Permit

The Gazette Newspapers and Harry Saltzgaver are reporting that on Tuesday night the Long Beach City Council was notified of the Golden Baseball League's claim that they plan to sue the city for terminating its permit to play baseball at Blair Field.

According to some reports form the Parks, Recreation and Marine Department's Business Operations Bureau, the Armada and GBL fell behind on payments. �Meanwhile, the city and Long Beach State inch closer to a lease deal that will make Blair the official home for Dirtbag Baseball.

This is a contract dispute so, without reference to the contract (and any performance and/or breach thereof), we can't really form much of an opinion as to who is "right" here.

When the permits expire at Blair Field for local high school baseball, Connie Mack baseball, etc.in the city of Long Beach. I hope Long Beach State does not forget where its bread is buttered.

Sounds like the Armada is being thrown under the bus.

A stipulation of the contract is the High schools still get to play at Blair--that won't change going forward

The real question here is not what happened but why would the city eliminate the Armada revenue that has come in for five years plus the scoreboard payments that would have come in for many more years as well?

Wilson High has already been approached to help find "sponsors" to pay for the video board and may be asked to actually pay for field usage for the first time ever when a new permit is negotiated with Long Beach State. Nobody else is going to pay the kind of payments that the Armada did for 50 nights or so during the summer, why kill that golden goose? Something is fishy here...

Hang on a minute: I thought the Armada were gone. You mean to tell me that you guys at the Post gave me some bad information regarding their "demise," so to speak? That's a rarity.

GBL is internally pretty corrupt - working with them for 3 years I can say that first hand. Although the games may have been fun entertaining, Id rather see a better organization playing here. I wouldnt be suprised if theyre doing this just to get something out of it... shame shame shame
