ML Boys' Soccer: Millikan & Wilson Creating Some Space by J.J. Fiddler | General | 02.01.10 | | Text Size: +
Millikan 4 Lakewood 0 The Rams emerged victorious with two goals in the first half and two goals in the second. Daniel Delgadillo sent one home in the 24th minute to get the scoring started and Jose Rodriguez earned the second goal when he got pulled down in the box 12 minutes later. Robert Burgos converted the penalty kick. Millikan goalkeepers Jorge Becerra and Daniel Valencia combined for the six save shutout. Lakewood keeper Evan McCarty made seven saves to keep his team in it until the 72nd minute when Erik Infante scored. Antonio Gonzales wrapped up the scoring two minutes later. The victory for the Rams (7-0-2) came with a lot of numbers. It's their 16th shutout this year and this year is the seventh straight season Millikan has reached 20 wins. The Rams are also headed to their 28th straight CIF playoffs. The Rams will take on Compton Wednesday while the Lancers (2-5-1) travel to Jordan on Friday. Wilson 2 Poly 0 The Bruins scored twice in the the first six minutes to improve to 6-1-0 and remain firmly in second place in league. Forward Alexis Marin was the spark early and scored the first goal. He collected the ball at the top of the box, put a good left foot on it and buried it in the bottom corner of the net. He proved true again just minutes later with a wide free kick that Ismael Delgado put in with a strong header. "I like that team," said head coach Mark Hervin of the Jackrabbits. "That's a good result against a good team, especially away from home." Wilson will travel to Jordan on Wednesday and Poly (1-4-2) will host Cabrillo. Written by J.J. JR Salazar The Rams came into their match as prohibitive favorites for a reason. No surprise.
