TO DO: This Week's LB Sports Calendar by Mike Guardabascio | General | 02.09.10 | | Text Size: +
It's something of a light week, as the city battens down the hatches in anticipation of next week's CIF playoff onslaught, but as usual there's still something fun to do or see in the city every day. Here's a few suggestions—leave comments if you feel we left something out! Tuesday there are
some good basketball games, yes, but we'll be at The Grand at 5pm covering the Century Club's Annual Sports
Banquet, the Oscars of the LB sports world. Tons of high school and collegiate
athletes will be recognized, along with a few hard-working citizens (including
this website!). This is a blast
every year, a great night for Long Beach sports and, even better, all the
proceeds go towards supporting athletics in Long Beach…which is obviously a
good thing. Wednesday we'll be
recording our podcast at The Beach Club in the afternoon, and then Lakewood and Wilson boys'
soccer will be tussling for second place in the Moore League at 3pm. Thursday there are
playoff implications everywhere, as seeds are up for grabs in girls' soccer,
girls' water polo, and boys' basketball.
We'll be enjoying the Millikan at Poly girls' h20 polo game, then heading to Compton for a showdown
between the Tarbabes' and Jackrabbits' boys' basketball teams, the final game of the season being played between
the first and second place teams. Friday we were
planning on telling you to check out Millikan/Wilson boys' soccer, but with
Wilson tying Lakewood and Millikan beating Poly on Monday, that games is all
but meaningless. Instead, join us
in the Pyramid for Long Beach State men's volleyball as they host UC
Santa Barbara at 7pm. Saturday the LBSU
women's basketball team will host UCSB at 4pm in the Pyramid. Sunday is the
biggest day of the Winter sports season: CIF Playoff Bracket
Day! Join us in the afternoon as we lay out the playoff path for Long Beach
teams in boys' basketball, girls' basketball, boys' and girls' soccer, and
girls' water polo. Also my wife
just reminded me it's Valentine's Day, so uh, you might want to remember that too. REALLY?!?!?! Last time you had an excuse that you only mention ONE event per day. Well, look at Thursday! That should be a great game for 2nd Place in the Moore League. BUT you ignore the "two top seven H2O girls teams" playing on Friday at 2:30 p.m. = Wilson v. Los Al at the base . . . thankfully the Press Telegram has the game listed today! P.S. Wilson is ALREADY the Moore League Girls H2O Champs . . . AGAIN! Also, check OCVarsity.com because they have photos and video of the Wilson girls palying. And please don't be spineless and delete this! (You love it when your readers tear each other apart but can't handle the "heat" when it comes your way!) mike guardabascio hah? i can assure you we don't have some kind of anti-wilson water polo agenda, although that seems to be what you're implying. i'm hoping to cover that game, but as we've stated the games we list in the calendar are located in the city of long beach. that's a big game with seeding implications, hope there's a big turnout! John and don't forget the defending conference champs LBCC Baseball team!!!
