All-Walter Pyramid Team: Tyler Hildebrand


Tyler Hildebrand is one of the most decorated 49er men's volleyball players in school history.

A starter as a freshman, Hildebrand was a three-time first team AVCA All-American and a three-time first team All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) selection. He ranks first on the 49er career chart with 6,651 assists and he's also first in games played with 469. Hildebrand's name is also listed fourth all-time in assist average (14.18), ninth in digs (625) and tied for ninth in service aces (77).

As a senior in 2006, Hildebrand ranked third in the country in assists at 13.48 assists per game as he led the 49ers to a 23-10 mark and an appearance in the MPSF Tournament Championship match. In fact, Hildebrand led Long Beach to three consecutive championship appearances at the MPSF Tournament (2004-06). His 1,671 assists that season rank No. 5 on the 49er single season chart. Hildebrand was also named the MVP of the UCSB/E-Bar Tournament and the Long Beach/Active Ankle Classic in 2006.

As a junior in 2005 he averaged 14.03 assists per game, a mark which led the nation. The 49ers were 22-10 and advanced to the MPSF Tournament finals before falling to eventual National Champion Pepperdine. He was also named the MVP of the Carson DoubleTree/Active Ankle Classic.

During 2004, his sophomore season, he quarterbacked a 49er squad which finished the season at 28-7 and advanced all the way to the National Championship match. Hildebrand tallied 1,774 assists that season, a mark which ranks No. 4 on the 49er single season chart, and was named to the NCAA All-Tournament Team and the MPSF All-Tournament Team. The 49ers fell in the 2004 title match in five games to Brigham Young.

Hildebrand gained valuable international experience during his tenure at Long Beach State. He won a bronze medal at the 2003 World University Games in Izmir, Turkey and he competed in the 2005 World University Games.
