LBSU WBB: Sims Awarded Again

Senior guard Lauren Sims  has been named to the 2010 CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII first team the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Thursday.

A three-time team captain, Sims is currently second on the squad in scoring with 12.6 points per game. She also leads the Big West Conference in 3-point field goals made (47) and ranks sixth in 3-point field goal percentage (41.2 percent).

Sims has recorded 13 double-figure scoring games, including a career-high 25 points at the University of Miami. Against the Hurricanes, she tied a school single-game record with seven threes made. Sims also made six 3-pointers in 20-plus point performances against Prairie View A&M and at UC Santa Barbara.

In her three-plus years at The Beach, Sims has etched her name in the 49er record books, ranking second in 3-point field goals made (145) and 3-point field goals attempted (385), and third in 3-point field goal percentage (37.7 percent).

In the classroom, Sims maintains a 4.0 cumulative grade-point average as a biology-physiology major with a minor in chemistry. She was Long Beach State's 2009-10 Rhodes Scholar candidate and was also a nominee for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award. Sims was recently inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Society and Phi Kappa Phi Society at LBSU.

Sims has earned CoSIDA Academic All-District second team honors in each of the last two years. She is also a two-time Academic All-Big West selection.

To be eligible for CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honors, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum 3.30 GPA, be a significant contributor to the team and must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing.
