Junior goaltender Kristen Stragier made 10 saves against a high-powered USC attack, but the No. 2 Women of Troy proved too strong in a 13-3 victory over the 49ers in Long Beach State's home opener. Freshman Miranda Furuto led the 49ers with two goals.

Long Beach State held strong in the opening minutes, but USC took a 2-0 lead with a pair of Forel Davies goals in the first four minutes. Trailing 3-0, the 49ers got on the board with Miranda Furuto's first collegiate goal.

USC advanced their lead with two Patricia Jansco goals in the early minutes of the second quarter, but Long Beach State answered back with a Krizia Cerda goal at 4:26 to cut the lead to 6-2, and that score would hold for the rest of the half.

The Women of Troy controlled the second half action, scoring the first three goals in the third period prior to Furuto's second tally with :28 seconds remaining in the quarter. USC's Kara-Leigh Huse scored three out of USC's four goals in the final quarter however, as the Women of Troy held the 49ers scoreless in the period.

Long Beach State will travel to San Diego this weekend for the Triton Invitational, playing four matches on Saturday and Sunday. The 49ers next play in the Campus Pool on Friday, Feb. 12 when they host UC San Diego at 7 p.m.

Lady Troy
You could see last night the the 49er gals were working twice as hard but just could not convert. I was told last night that the 49ers are a young team but you can see that the errors made were by the coach, not the gals.

Get a clue here Vic, your polo staff is the problem here!

Lady Troy:

I don't think it's as much the players' ineptitude as it is Gavin Arroyo's plans for the big picture continuing to backfire on him. The Curse of Shore Aquatics continues...on LBPostSports.com.

It's not a curse
I think that is great JR that you are coining it the curse of Shore and maybe deep-down it is. But with all honesty it's just bad coaching. Gavin Arroyo has not been able to succeed at LBSU. He may be a good coach or was a great player but he is not the right fit for the college. The University can't keep going down this path of loosing. These young men and women work hard to be the best they can be but if you have a general that can't lead you into battle then you are destine to loose. CSULB need to evaluate the coaching staff, the current and past seasons and just cut bait.
