MLB Draft: Singleton To Phillies, Peters To Marlins by J.J. Fiddler | Millikan | 06.11.09 | | Text Size: +
Yesterday, the defending champion Philadelphia Phillies selected Millikan first baseman Jonathan Singleton in the 8th round of the Major League Baseball draft as the 257th overall player. After re-evaluating his approach at the plate, and a move to the two-spot in the lineup, Singleton found his swing and led the Rams to the CIF semifinals. More impressive than his swing might be his patience at the dish, and the athletic ability he shows on the base paths. “I just want to play pro ball,” said Singleton a few weeks ago at the Millikan signing day event. He can still decide to not go to the show and attend college at Long Beach State to play baseball there and up his draft stock. “It’s been my dream forever.” We'll keep you updated about his plans for the future. Sam and Michele CONGRATS JON! All the the best to you young man. Your incredible talent is matched by your strong work ethic, but both take a back seat to you as a person. You are a very polite and respectful gentlemen (great job mom and dad). It's been our pleasure to watch you play over the last 10 years or so. We are very proud of you and we look forward to watching and cheering you on in the future. Gary If you keep looking around that website that the link above takes you to, they have a bunch of other stuff on Singleton too. They have video of him and a scouting report and an announcement that he was drafted! It's pretty cool! Can't wait to watch this young man succeed! Good luck!
