Millikan's Paulina Guzman Takes Silver In New Zealand

View Comments

With reports from Jessica Pollack

Lakewood Resident and Millikan High School Senior, Paulina Guzman represented McCormick Divers at the Asia Pacific Rim Junior Diving Invitational in Wellington, New Zealand this week.  Guzman earned second place finishes in both one meter and three meter springboard competitions behind the powerhouse Chinese competitor, Liang Hong Yu.

As the sole member of Guatamala’s dive team, Guzman is no stranger to international competition.  She competed in the Junior World Championships last year in Germany and plans to compete in the Pan Am Games next fall when she will also be a member of the UCLA college team.

For a little more info, check out this brief news report that aired on New Zealand’s 3 News http://www.3news.co.nz/Young-diving-elite-come-to-NZ/tabid/317/articleID/134745/Default.aspx.

McCormick Divers train year-round in Long Beach at Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool.  The team includes Novice Divers in the 7 &Under group to Masters Divers and are always looking for talented athletes who want to dive.  Contact McCormick Divers through their website at http://www.mccormickdivers.com

It seems any time we have [insert random competitor from China here] in the field, the contest is over before the first entry makes his/her move.

Nonetheless, a solid effort from Guzman.
