Todd Fanady The Kroc Center will offer great benefits to the community and hopefully the needed funding will be found. However, in the previous drawings I have seen in the paper, there is no sign of Solar Systems being used! This will prove to be a very costly oversight to the future facility operators. The natural gas needed to heat the pool will cost tens of thousands per year, the electricity bill will likely run in the thousands per month. The enormouse roof space could easily hold enough solar pool panels to heat the pool 80+ percent of the year and still have enough space left over for solar electric panels that would reduce the electric bill by hundreds of dollars. In this day, it is really unthinkable that a brand new facility of this type will be built to an archaic (cheap energy) standard. It's not too late to re-disign the roof for solar and get proposals from qualified solar system contracting companies. I know because I design solar systems for the oldest solar company in greater Long Beach.
