Long Beach State Lands A Point Guard In Corona's Caffey

The Long Beach State men's basketball team landed another prized recruit yesterday, according to Press-Telegram sportswriter Frank Burlison, and it looks to be a dandy.

All 5-feet-11 of point guard Michael Caffey will join the 49ers for the 2011-12 season after completing his upcoming senior year at Corona Centennial. Caffey apparently committed on Sunday night. The university is not allowed to comment on any potential signings until the player signs a National Letter of Intent in November.

The playmaker was a Riverside County All-Second Team selection last season and has been praised for both his athleticism

and decision making skills.

With recent announcements that the 49ers had signed some key additions to the roster, the one glaring omission was a long-term point guard. Caffey will arrive on campus just as two-year starter Casper Ware is entering his senior campaign, which will give Caffey a good opportunity to learn the ropes before possibly being handed the reigns for his final three years. On a team loaded with super-athletes and more approaching on the horizon, the promise of a speedy ball handler with impressive court vision is enough to keep the 49er faithful excited.

Caffey is a member of the exclusive Compton Magic AAU team that includes stars of the 2011 recruiting class like Jahii Carson, Gabe York and Isaiah Austin. He is also a high school teammate of New Mexico commit Dominique Dunning. Playing with a talented, athletic Long Beach State team will be nothing new to Caffey.

As long as this new guy has what it takes to beat Santa Barbara, UOP and what have you, I got no problems.

Great News! Keep-up the great recruiting work Coach Monson! Now let's get a rebounding 7 footer! Go 49ers!

Nice get for CSULB. Funny though, Ryan, that both you and the 49ers missed the real "get"- Alexis Moore of LB Poly- without doubt the best PG in LB, and recently ranked in top 25 in Cali, giving his verbal to USC back in June. (Burlisson reported that one too.) How'd THAT one get away from you guys?!?!?!?
