ML Girls' Soccer: Wilson Too Much For Millikan

10:00pm |  The Wilson Bruins continued to stake their claim to the Moore League crown with a convincing 5-0 victory over the Millikan Rams yesterday afternoon.  With the win Wilson moves to 6-0-1 before they play three more games this week.  Millikan falls to 4-3-2 but remains in the fourth and final playoff spot.

"We got the early goal we wanted," said Wilson head coach Jason Kirkwood of his teams level play.  "We stayed calm, knocked the ball around, got some good quality play and quality goals."

As has been the story almost all year, Emily Dillon started the scoring in the 13th minute.  The senior captain also started the second goal in the 38th minute when she dribbled past three Millikan defenders and sent it through the goalmouth to Chloe Gharios, who one-touched it home past the keeper.

"I felt like we were in it when it was 1-0 for most of the first half," said Millikan head coach Dave Christensen. "But we just didn't come to play... even if we both played our best game it might still be 4-0, but it's not about the winning, it's about the will to win, and I keep telling them that.  We're trying to build a program and here is where you start."

After outshooting the Rams 9-to-3 in the first half, the Bruins continued to apply the pressure in the second half and didn't allow a Millikan shot in the second half.

In the 48th minute, Miri Gold's throw in found Diana Rosas' head near the edge of the box.  Rosas flicked it to the far post where Syndey Wells put it into goal.  Kim Marshall added a fourth goal ten minutes later with a low line drive from about 25 yards out, and Renee Mendiola capped the scoring off a nice pass from Rosas.

Wilson will continue their four-game week today against Jordan.  Millikan will take on Compton.
